Telemedan is a Chadian health-tech startup founded by Abakar Mahamat (CEO), transforming access to medical care through digital and off-grid innovation. The company was built to address the severe shortage of healthcare access in rural and underserved parts of Chad.

Telemedan connects patients to qualified healthcare professionals through mobile platforms and solar-powered telemedicine kiosks, allowing communities without reliable electricity or nearby clinics to receive medical consultations, diagnoses, and referrals.
At the heart of Telemedan’s model is its deployment of solar-powered telemedicine kiosks, equipped with diagnostic tools such as ECGs, oximeters, and digital medical records, all connected to remote doctors via the internet.
These kiosks ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery in off-grid areas, overcoming one of the biggest barriers to care in rural Chad. By combining teleconsultations with clean energy infrastructure, Telemedan makes healthcare more affordable, reduces long travel times for patients, and supports frontline health workers with digital tools that improve continuity and quality of care.
Since its launch, Telemedan has served over 60,000 patients across Chad and partnered with local clinics, pharmacies, and health organisations to strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery.
Its solar-enabled model proved especially valuable during public-health emergencies, when mobility was restricted, and in-person care was limited.
Telemedan has been recognised within African digital-health and innovation ecosystems for pioneering solar-powered telemedicine in Chad, and continues to gain visibility as one of the country’s most impactful health-tech startups—bringing resilient, technology-driven healthcare closer to communities that need it most.
