African Heritage Meets High Fashion

Updated: Jun 13

Inga Atelier is a South African high-end leather goods brand founded by designer Inga Gubeka, with a bold vision of bringing African craftsmanship to the global luxury market. Inspired by his roots in the Eastern Cape, Gubeka blends African heritage with Scandinavian minimalism to create timeless, refined designs. The brand specializes in handcrafted products—including handbags, backpacks, and accessories—made from premium leather sourced from Ethiopia and Italy. With each item hand-stitched and assembled by a highly skilled team, Inga Atelier exemplifies attention to detail, quality, and artisanal excellence.

Gubeka’s journey into design began in 2013 with his first venture, Indalo Décor, known for its unique lifestyle accessories such as wooden clutch bags, lamps, and clocks. His innovative vision quickly drew attention, earning him a spot on Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 list and recognition as one of Forbes USA’s Top 5 Accessories Designers in Africa in 2016. He was also named the “Glenfiddich Maverick,” becoming the first African designer to have a premium single malt whisky named in his honor—an acknowledgment of his trailblazing role in African luxury design.

Inga Atelier’s commitment to excellence extends beyond craftsmanship to bespoke customer experiences, offering clients the ability to personalize their purchases. In 2019, the brand’s influence was made clear when a single viral tweet led to a full sell-out of its luxury bag collection. Gubeka’s designs have since reached global stages, including the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he presented 120 custom leather bags to world leaders. Inga Atelier continues to redefine African luxury, merging cultural storytelling with modern design to build a brand that is both rooted and globally relevant.
