Africa's Fastest-Growing Companies to Watch in 2026

Updated: Aug 15

Africa’s fastest-growing companies are offering a revealing snapshot of where the continent’s economy is heading. The latest Financial Times ranking of Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies shows fintechs, software, and IT firms accounting for nearly 40% of the list, reflecting how digital payments and financial inclusion continue to reshape African markets.

But the rankings also point to a broader shift: alongside startups, more established firms—from airlines to industrial businesses—are increasingly appearing as companies adapt, digitise, and reposition for growth.

Among the 130 companies ranked, South Africa dominated with 51 firms, benefiting from a more stable currency, easing power cuts, and improving infrastructure. Kenya (17) overtook Nigeria (16) for the first time, reinforcing Nairobi’s growing role as a regional innovation hub, while Mauritius (12) and Tunisia (6) also emerged as notable growth centres.

Nigeria’s lower positioning was heavily influenced by the sharp devaluation of the naira, which reduced dollar-based revenue growth and highlighted how currency instability can materially affect investor perception.

The rankings also reveal that Africa’s fastest-growing firms are increasingly solving structural gaps rather than simply chasing consumer demand. Companies such as PalmPay, OmniRetail, M-KOPA, and Remedial Health operate in sectors tied to financial access, healthcare distribution, supply chains, and embedded finance. In many cases, growth is being driven less by discretionary spending and more by addressing inefficiencies in logistics, payments, and service delivery.

For investors and business leaders, the rankings offer insight into where scalable business models are emerging despite difficult macroeconomic conditions. While fintech still dominates, sectors such as logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, industrial services, and energy are gaining momentum.

In a higher interest-rate and more selective funding environment, the companies scaling fastest are increasingly those combining tech with operational discipline, localisation, and clearer paths to profitability.
